Yes. The picture quality is substantially improved over s standard blu-ray player. The picture on my Panasonic 60" flatscreen(which is non-4K, roughly a 3 or 4 yr old tv at this point) is both more vivid and sharper/more defined than the larger, more expensive home theater standard blu-ray player that we currently have set up for the home system. The difference in the picture quality is immediately noticeable.

I did not purchase this unit for it's 4K upscale as I only wanted a blueray player to replace a dvd only player that was missing it's remote. I am very happy with the results even though the 21' LCD TV it is attached to doesn't compare to the 55' LED in the other room. This is a great unit for the price and I have been very happy with the picture quality of every movie played on it. I did purchase a HDMI cable to complete the connection.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No it does not. You have to have a 4K TV. If you have a 4K TV then it will upscale regular DVDs to 4K on the TV
