“What is the difference between this model (BDPS6500) and the BDPS7200? I recently bought a Sony 4K TV and was looking for a good Blu-ray player to pair with it. Is there any difference between the two models (6500 vs 7200) besides audio options? They seem similar but terminology surrounding the 4K upscaling is slightly different between the two. The 7200 model says it requires a 4K display, the 6500 does not say this. This is what the 7200 says: Ultra HD upscaling Delivers enhanced HD sports, TV shows, movies and even YouTube clips and smartphone videos upconverted to near-4K quality (requires a 4K display). This is what the 6500 says: 4K upscaling Allows you to upconvert media for immersive viewing. It sounds the same but I'd like to know...”

I DID ALOT OF RESEARCH, This is what I THINK is true, Up conversion on the 7200 means converting a USB or other signal to a HDMI signal. which may not be any better. Upscaling on the 6500 means up scaling the display to 1080i 1080p, or near 4K if your TV can display it. I have a Sharp Aquas Q+ TV which is not true 4K but close, with a SONY 6500 and it does what it says it will and more. Very impressed !

The 7200 has a better 4K Upscaler chip and decodes Super Audio CD discs. BOTH require 4K Displays. See Sony BDPS 7200 web site for more information.
