“Bought camera today. Put brand new batteries in that came with the camera. Tested the macro setting and held down pic taking button to try to focus, and camera shuts off. Is there a reason/solution or is something wrong with the camera?”

Did you try some brand new Batteries mine also did this and it was just the batteries it came with were no good.
