Hi MT, the lens is compatible with A7Riii with some restrictions (1)The angle of view will be narrower down to that of APS-C size. (2) The [Lens Comp.: Distortion] setting will be set to "Auto". (3) You can change the operating direction of the zooming ring by upgrading the lens software to Ver. 02 or later.

I have the A7R ii and it works fine, however, it is possible that you may not get the maximum benefits from your camera body since the A7 series body uses a 35 mm SENSOR vs the lens having a APS-C sensor. Unless you're a pro photographer, that should have little to no impact on your decision.
