They will work in an mp3 player however I don't think you can control the volume with them. The controls they do have is for microphone and hands free operation of Apple and Android cell phones but you can just adjust the volume with the mp3 player. They sound very good with crisp clean highs and mids and very impressive bass response for this price range. Hope this helps.
