The real questions are do you really enjoy listening to music using headphones, and are you willing to pay to have the best experience when doing so? If the answers to these two questions are "yes", then this portable music player is a great choice. It sounds amazing, has incredible build quality and some really cool features (like a L/R balance control and balanced output), and has enough power to drive a lot of different headphones. And if you think $1200 is a lot for a portable music player, Sony has an even more expensive unit, which makes this one (Sony NW-WM1A) a really good value. I'm thoroughly enjoying it!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have to ask the question you can't afford it. I own two other portable players from Sony and they all work as expected. I use them in the car exercising with portable speaker when working around the house. The $1100 one I use with my surround sound system mostly and it never leaves the house. It depends on what you are going to use it for. If you like music and you like quality made electronics Sony is the way to go.If you think $1200 is too much to spend go with a lesser priced model.
