It's in the back on a pull out tray.

The battery compartment is on the bottom of the clock, in the indentation in the underside. You'll see a tiny tab with an arrow embossed on it. Press that in the direction the arrow points, at the same time pulling gently on it. The battery tray should slide out. It's small, too. Be gentle, because that tab feels as though it could snap off pretty easily. To put the tray back in, just line it up and push it in. It will snap into place. The process is probably easier for someone with slender fingers and no arthritis, but I'm here to say that it can be done without those advantages. If you have the instructions, there are drawings to guide you through the process. They helped me.
