• the NP-FV50 has a 15% capacitiy increase over is predecessor the NP-FH50 battery The Compatibility of the NP-FV50 over the NP-FH40 is determined by the Handycam® camcorder it is installed in. Please review the operating instructions of your camcorder for a list of recommended batteries. If the instructions list the NP-FH50 battery it will work.

• No it is a back-up battery not a replacement. It has a capacity listed as 980 mAh vs, 900 for the FH-40.
