• An external drive works fine, and that way to do not have to mess with the software install etc. USB 3.0 external you can get in SSD also. Just make sure it is connected directly to the PS4 usb port

• I put a 4Tb in my Uncharted 4 PS4. You can back up all your games to an external drive. Make sue it is larger than the one installed. :-) Game saves can be backed up to the cloud if you have PS Plus. The same with Trophies. Then remove the HDD and install the new one. You will have to reinstall the system software, but it tells you how to do that. I have done this on 2 PS3s and my PS4. It is quite easy.
