You don't have to pay to play single player campaigns. However if you want to play online multiplayer then ps plus is required when you have to pay for. However, if you are new to PlayStation or make a new account you can get a 14 day trial for free by going to the ps store.

You dont have to pay, you only pay for add ons or ps online if you want to play online with your friends
