• My remote will only control the volume of the tv. It doesn’t appear to to do anything besides volume at least on my tv. The remote could possibly have more functionality with Sony 4ks, not really sure with that though. Hope I helped you

• No you are not forced while you are connecting the media remote it will give you the option to make the remote the main tv remote.
