Yes, it can, fortunately. In the past I've kept track of football plays with a recorder that can be paused. Just allow for the likelihood that you will lose a syllable before and after each time you pause and resume recording. You need that moment of silence when you play it back or it will all run together and you won't be able to tell where you paused. Make sure and look for this feature when shopping -- my Olympus does not have pause and I sure wish that it did.
