• Hi Rod, Thank you for your inquiry! There should be no problem placing this on a shelf as you describe. The buttons to turn on the XB43 are on top/center and as long as you can access the power button, you can control the rest from your connected smart phone. That being said, the charging port is on the rear of the device. Hope this helps. Regards, Carl
