“Can it's remote be programmed to operate an older Sony CD changer? Also, would a MP3 player require a preamp like the turntable would? I am not hearing much volume from my mp3.”

Hi Grover, No, every Sony remote uses a different remote code. We strongly recommend using the supplied remote for each audio system we have. Are you trying to connect an MP3 player directly to the receiver? You can use 3.5mm headphone jack for audio connection. Regards, David
