I'm not a real techie but I can say that I didn't think I heard the subwoofer either. Be sure the sound bar is plugged into the TV unit correctly. The sounds that come out of the subwoofer are almost indistinct, but once you really hear something come out of it, you then realize that you are hearing more than you think, but it is different than a stereo where you hear sounds from both sides. The subwoofer seems to only pick up the lower end of the scale sounds/noises but it's there, just very subtle.
