“Will this player play back self produced "home movies" as UHD 4k content .mov or h.264 files from an external drive and does it have that connectivity via a usb port?”

I have not reed an external USB hard drive but it does play from thumb drives. I also found an app called Serviio which let's me stream directly from my home computer to the X800, although Wifi may not handle 4k streaming so well, I get an occasional pause as it buffers.
