“Bought this a couple weeks ago and played a 4k movie on it, did fine. Ordered some old Christmas movies that are standard def DVD's and the audio cuts in and out. Is there some fancy setting I need to play with in order to correct that?”

Make sure your tv and this player are on pcm mode to play that type of dvd. It should play just standard 2 channel audio.
