So good I might by another (for spare) 3D Dolby
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My 10 year old 3D Blu-Ray Player died in the middle of a COVID Lockdown 3D Family movie marathon. Since most mfgs stopped making 3D screens/players and even BluRay Players, I thought that I would have to go to an online auction to pay through the nose for an old used 3D player. I am so glad that I checked BestBuy first. In Stock UHD, 3D, Dolby Vision, HDR Player for $149. A Sony UBPX700 no less. I'm slowly working my way toward a full ATMOS setup, and this was exactly what needed. The UBPX700 has 2 HDMI outputs (1 is Audio Only) so I can hook it to my future ATMOS system while still keeping my TV a while longer. My biggest concern was if it would play my media library of MKV files. Previously only my Now Dead BluRay player would digest my MKV libraries without prior conversion. Every other device (TV and other players / streams) could not deal with all the audio codecs contained in a full MKV. My TV for example completely locks up trying to play a BluRay MKV directly from the TV streaming app. NO WORRIES, I have tested about 10 different eras of DVD and BluRay MKV's (I don't have UHD yet) and everything worked perfectly on the UBPX700 as did my audio library of MP3 and FLAC. So Far (only a few hours in) high marks for DLNA based streaming compatibility which constitutes 90% of my use. I also tested Amazon and Netflix Apps to allow me to pull down more 4K and ATMOS content. Again, worked perfectly no issues. I will probably buy another UBPX700 one just to put on a shelf for a spare. At $149 is only slightly more expensive than a premium streaming box. Some reviews were concerned about the build quality as it weighs close to nothing and is smaller than 10 year old generations. First, at this price, I don't care. Second it still has a metal case with a plastic front end. Granted, you won't want to stack anything on this. My old unit was buried under a substantial pile of gear. This Sony will need to be on top, but even my TiVo is now this smaller form factor. When I opened my old player to try to repair it. 50% of the box was empty anyway. It was just built with stronger materials. So, in summary, just get this. It checks most of the boxes you could think of. I wish it had optical audio out. But for $15 I can get a converter if I ever need it.

So far, so good.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first purchased this unit, I was aware of the freezing, lockup and screen blackout issues in some reviews. The only one I experienced was the 1-2 second screen blackouts so I did a factory reset and ever since, there have been no issues at all. The unit also had the latest software already installed. Since I replaced my older Pioneer Elite AVR with a new Denon AVR along with a new 75" Samsung TV, I am now equipped for 4K playback. With this new SONY, I have played many regular DVD's and Blu-ray discs (some rented and some of which I own) and all have played perfectly. As of this writing, I have not had the opportunity to watch a 4K disc yet so I'm hoping there won't be any playback problems with them either. Since my new TV is a Samsung, I can't test the Dolby Vision feature as no Samsung TV's support DV. I use a Roku Streaming Stick+ for most of my streaming but I have used the X700 to stream Amazon Prime and YouTube at times and have had no issues with that feature so far (I don't have Netflix so I can't comment on that app). I know some reviewers have claimed it's a terrible streaming device but I have had no problems with it. The one feature I wish it had pertains to the on screen display. My older SONY Blu-Ray player would show how much time was remaining in a movie and this player does not. Not a big deal but it is a feature I really liked. Also, the remote for my older player has a 10 second replay button and a 15 second advance button that the X700's original remote does not have. I also like the older remote better because it's larger in addition to the two previously mentioned buttons. Overall, this is an excellent 4K player and the upscaling on Blu-Ray's and DVD's is very good and at the current price of $179.00, it's a terrific bargain.

Love it
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wanted a 65 inch TV for my living room so bought a Sony 950G. Bought this Ultra HD player to go with it. Was an open box so saved another 20 bucks off sale price. Came with everything a new one would....does not even look like inside packaging was ever disturbed. Works great does a very good job of upscaling normal blu rays. And the Ultra HD discs...all i can say is wow!! If I could change anything it is a bit slow to start maybe 15-20 seconds for the disc to load but that's not a big deal really. Small footprint also. Would recommend.

Great 4K UHD Streaming Player
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the picture quality in 4k, I also like the fact that you can customize the settings for various viewing modes. HDR makes a big difference in 4k, especially with the 240 refresh rate. The movies look good whether it a disc or streaming on netflix 4k and amazon UHD. I hope hulu gets 4k soon. I told the sales rep that since I was updating to 4k, I wanted the full 4k experience. I had my mind set on a different 4k brand, but he recommended Sony. He stated that" Since Sony Studios shoots movies, they totally understand how a movie should look & have the best technology to do it." I agreed & decided to go with this to match my Sony OLED TV as well. I caught this on sell for Black Friday deal, which was $150 cheaper. The only thing Im missing was the Sony Playstation pro. Since it is release date is next fall, I decided to wait on that.

Good player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ordered the Sony UBP-X700 to a second 4K player and to replace my Samsung K8500, also to get the latest format Dolby vision for future use. I gave it a 4 star because of picture quality using HDR10 or even standard HDR compared to my Samsung. The Pros for the Sony is the support for all kinds of Disc format which is not really important to me because I only use it for 4K movies, even any streaming apps aren't important because I use my Samsung TV to watch from Netflix and Amazon Movies. Now comparing the video quality from my Samsung is, I say my Samsung K8500 is still the King! The vivid colors and contrast from my Samsung is still amazing! I tried to tweak the Sony's video settings, which is not a lot to adjust compared to Samsung, the Sony still cannot match the video quality of the Samsung K8500, at least on my equipment setup, others may have a different results. Everything else are pretty much the same, both has dual HDMI output, no screen display on both players, I like the bigger size of the Samsung unit though, but I also like the larger size of the Sony remote control, both has front USB input, wired ethernet connection. when it comes to disc loading and processing, the Samsung is a little faster. I the end My Samsung will stay inside my Home Theater room and the Sony instead will will be in my other room, unless I need Dolby Vision, which is my Samsung 82' TV doesn't support anyway. It's a good additional player or first 4K player.

It's a great streamer to boot!!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Its a great streamer to boot. The Blu-Ray discs load fast and play wonderfully, also plays SACD if that is a requirement for you. I use the digital outputs to my DAC for Audio and it works flawlessly. This is a compact unit and I don't need anything more. It does what it does very well, extremely satisfied with my purchase.

Great mid tier 4K BR player for HT enthusiast
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased mainly for the dual HDMI output so that I could feed my receiver uncompressed audio while sending the video signal directly to the TV. Works perfectly. If you're a budding Home Theater enthusiast, This is definitely a good starter buy. Haven't had any issues with 4K disks yet but I did have an issue with Blu-Ray Kill Bill vol 1. It would freeze the Player and only a power cycle would allow the player to work again. One other small complaint is the apps that the player comes with. There is no app store so you can't add anymore and the selection is minimal. They might as well had left the apps off and save us the trouble. With how cheap this player is, you can get a firestick or another streaming device if you don't have a smart tv.

Okay, but Has Some Problems
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, it's great when it works. Maybe mine is defective, but it's important to know what your experience could be. The first problem I ran into was freezing. On my first movie, about 70% through, it froze. Had to power off and restart, and it worked fine. Disc was not the problem. This happened multiple times, across multiple movies. At some point, I decided to go ahead and connect it to the wifi and update it. I hadn't at this point, because my TV is already capable of running Netflix and whatnot, so I didn't see a need to. Updating seemed to fix this issue, hasn't happened since. It worked well for a few months, then the display went a little nuts. At first, there was a green line. Then, it froze. I turned it off and turned it back on, and when starting the movie again, the whole screen was messed up, as seen in the image included in my review. I turned it off and on again, but then the entire screen went green, and it wouldn't respond. This was not my TV, the cable, or the disc. I tested all of these aspects. I unplugged it and powered it on, tried different cables and discs, but it remained green. Eventually, I decided to leave it unplugged for a bit. Like 30 minutes later, I plugged it back in, and it's worked fine since. Other than those issues, it's worked fairly well. Can't complain much. Not a fan of the interface design, but it's also on the cheaper end of 4K Players, so that's to be expected. Not sure I would recommend if you have money for something better, but if you don't, it has worked fine like 95% of the time.

Q: QuestionI was considering the purchase of the X800. The reviews about freezing, shutoffs, etc. troubled me. Has anyone experienced similar issues with the new X700? I'm a senior citizen trying to avoid issues with the purchase of a new BluRay. Thanks

Q: QuestionWe have a 4k tv but what about audio? I need an updated CD player and something that will stream. I also need a player which will shuffle.
Asked by BeBe.
- A:Answer This 4K Blu-ray player will play CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K Blu-ray discs. It also plays FLAC and SACD formats. Pretty much any audio format is playable. I will say the regular DVDs aren't doing too well on this player. Every few minutes it pauses for a split second during playback. I think the player is looking for more data than the DVD can provide. This only happens on DVDs. For streaming, it does very well. It comes loaded up with most of the apps you would use for streaming. It even streams 4K from Netflix. It does not shuffle. I haven't seen any 4K players that will shuffle.

Q: QuestionWill the sony UBP-X700 player work with a Samsung 4K Q6 TV or should I buy a Samsung 4K player.
Asked by Gary.
- A:Answer The brands don't matter, the connections do. The Sony will work with any brand TV with the same connections.

Q: QuestionI'm getting a Sony 4k tv 75 inch. Does this 4k player upscale/convert dvds & regular blu ray? Do I need at least 18 gpbs or 22 gpbs to get the best picture quality? I was going to get a monster 4k hdmi since there a little cheaper now
Asked by BatmanThePunisher.
- A:Answer Yes it will upconvert to 4k. You'll want to choose the auto 2 option in the settings. I would hardwire ethernet for the best results. Otherwise you don't necessarily need 18 to 22. No need to spend that much on Monster cables. Pick up some certified 4k cables from Monoprice. Look for the orange bar code certified 4*4*4 color ones.

Q: QuestionSorry if this has been asked before but does this play 4k discs? Or just streams 4k?
Asked by Walt.
- A:Answer Yes, it plays 4K UHD Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray, and DVD discs. It also can stream 4K video through Netflix, Amazon Prime and other apps built into it. Remember, to get 4K quality streaming, you need a good broadband internet connection. And of course a 4K TV. I bought this player 1 month ago. Picture quality is great.

Q: QuestionWatch mainly Netflix for 4K HDR and Dobly Vision, which they recommend at lmeast 25 mbps WiFi speed. Is the Sony UPH-X700 capable of these speeds?
Asked by Chris.
- A:Answer I'll say this and hope it answers your question.... I have the box and it's connected to my WiFi. I use Spectrum cable provider at 200mbps speed. I can stream 4K HDR Netflix, Prime Video, or Youtube content using this box with no lag, buffering, or stuttering of any kind. Be sure you're using the right highspeed HDMI cable and I don't think you'll have any trouble.
