Hi ForestJohn, Yes, you have to directly connect your BluRay player to your TV. You will still get sound the sound from the receiver if the TV is connected using HDMI-ARC. Thanks! ^Ron
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I too have an older home theater system that is not compliant with the newer HDMI standards. To get my home theater to work and still get 4K content I used a digital optical audio cable. I connected both my Sony BluRay player and my Cable box directly to my Samsung 4K TV using HDMI cables and connected the digital optical audio cable out from the TV and in to the home theater system. Everything works perfectly now.
