“just hooked up the player but now a few channels on my tv aren't coming in....it says "unavailable"....would hooking the player up affect my cable television channels? Thanks!”

No. This Blu-ray player is to be connected to you tv through its own HDMI input. Example “HDMI 1” and you change it using the “source” or “input” button on your TV remote.
