- Answer You may have a low quality hdmi cord that is not registering the current properly. Try the Monster cables never had an issue.

- Answer Yes - any device that accepts HDMI input will be able to utilize the signal from the Sony player. You may have to install a driver on you laptop but it should configure it automatically.
