This device connects to a television via HDMI, so one needs a television with HDMI connections and an HDMI cable as well. To convey the picture quality that is on the blu-ray disc to the television screen one needs an HDMI cable. Otherwise the quality of the signal is greatly diminished. Perhaps a converter box exists that accepts an HDMI signal and transmits the signal to a television with the former connections. I don't know of any, but there may be one.
