Yes. The player will support Dolby Digital along with the other common compressed and lossless sound formats. By default, the player will decode the audio signal internally and output as LPCM. You can also set the player to simply output the audio bitstream to be decoded by a home theater receiver.

Is DTS:X backwards compatible? Yes, DTS:X is backwards compatible, so it will work with your current 5.1 or 7.1 configuration.
