Ultra HD Blu-ray players and 4K ultra Blu-ray players can be used to play commercially released cds and may play cds burned with MP3 files.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you will need to do some setup. As for using it as a CD player, there is no external display or auto play function. You will need a TV or monitor in order to operate this player. This player is designed for UHD video, which makes it a poor choice for audio only use. At the price they sell for you will be far better served finding a player designed for audio with an external display.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. For some discs, such as blu-ray audio, it is necessary to navigate the disc's menu to select the desired audio format, etc. Instead of a TV, you could just get an inexpensive computer monitor to serve as the display to aid menu navigation.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I own one for 4k movies and great audio. I have on for 5 years and it work well. There is some understanding you need to know how to use the setting, As to able to play SA-CD first if have different format music and it play all format. 1. The following is from the udp 800M2 4k player spec sheet: Disc Ultra HD Blu-ray,BD-ROM,Stereoscopic 3D (profile 5) ,SA-CD (SA-CD / CD) Playback,DVD-Video,DVD-Audio,DVD-R,DVD-RW,DVD-R Dual Layer,DVD+R,DVD+RW,DVD+R Double Layer,CD (CD-DA) ,CD-R / -RW Video format HEVC (.mkv, .mp4, .m4v, .m2ts, .mts), VP9 (.webm, .mkv), VP8 (.webm, .mkv), VP6 (.flv), MPEG-1 Video / PS (.mpg .MPEG, .mkv) [.VOB, .VRO],MPEG-2 Video / PS, TS ( .mpg.MPEG, .m2ts, .mts, .mkv) [.VOB, .VRO],MPEG-4 AVC (.mkv, .mp4, .m4v, .m2ts, .mts) ,MPEG-4 / AVC (.mov, 3gp, .3g2, .3gpp, .3gpp2, .flv) ,Xvid (.avi, .mkv) ,WMV9 (.wmv, .asf, .mkv) ,AVCHD Disc Format,VC1 (.m2ts, .mts, .mkv) ,Motion JPEG (.mov, .avi) Audio Format AAC (.AAC, .mka) ,HEAAC v.1 / v.2 / level2,WMA9 Standard (.WMA) ,LPCM (.mka, .wav) ,DSD - DSDIFF / DSD (.dff, .dsf) ,FLAC (.flac, .fla) ,AIFF (.aiff, .aif) ,ALAC (.m4a) ,Dolby Digital (.ac3, .mka) ,WMA10 Pro,Vorbis, MP3 (.mp3, .mka), AAC (.m4a), Monkey's Audio Photo format JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg) ,GIF (.gif) ,PNG (.png) ,MPO MPF 3D (.mpo) ,BMP (.bmp) 2. I do not rely on the player to provide good audio, i use hdmi 1 for music and video to a audio/video receiver or amplifier, as it should for surround sound or stereo, the receiver or ingrates amplifier should let you set it to stereo or 5.1 or Dolby atomos 7.1, ets based on number of speaker you have connected. Recommend looking for voice matching equipment, which mean it match a signer a specific tone to match real voice, like Yamaha equipment. Also look for a receiver or amplifier to have a D to A (digital to analog or DAC) audio chip converter to be high sampling rate so you get close to natural sound as recorded, Brown and Bur DAC to sample 240 kHz or latest, which what I have is Brown and Bur DAC 384 kHz in Yamaha TRS 700 or Yamaha Rxv-385 110watt /side at 349.99, or any higher priced model. This what will get you sound that close to live music if you use 12 gage speaker wire and voice matching speaker like POKE speakers. 3. To set the HDR and Dolby vision and collor RGB or CYY 422 or CYY 444 to get the fullest color the disc can provide, you need to understand how to set it. --A. in the display setting in the player follow the manual for the setting of HDR. However, more understanding need to properly know how to use it. Set HDR to ON, and leave it on, if you play a blu-ray move the HDR bit will not be used, if it UHD movie the HDR bit which you set to be on, will activate HDR or HDR10+ if you do not set Doby Vision bit to on. Dolby Vision will over ride HDR bit, however you need HDR bit on to get HDR and Dolby vision. Note when you play a DVD movie you do not need to turn or change HDR or Dolby Vision, it will not apply Standard Definition or 480p. If you have a blu ray disk only 1080 definition, you will get Dolby Vision apply to 1080 move. Note you will not get HDR for a 1080 movie if you turn off dolby vision. If you have 4k movie, you can get HDR and HDR10+ if you turn off the dolby vision bit. if you want dolby vision, turn on dolby vision bit on. Note for blu ray 1080 definition movie, if you have dolby vision on (which HDR bit has to be set also), I do see effects of dolby vision like slight bluing of background to make people in focus more popping stand out. The color is more controlled... I.e. skin tone look more real not over color, which you may see with HDR and HDR10+. 4. one more discussion setting the most color bit you can get. There is option to set the CYY color bit to max which is 4,4,4 12bit. Select CYY 4 4 4 (which require 12 bit for color), this will get you the most combination of color gambit used in Mini Led, Mico Led, Dot Led or OLED. One requirement is needed that you HDMI cable need to be able to transmit up to 48gig of data. For CYY 4 2 2 I believe 36gig bit is needed to get that set of combination of color. This where choosing a HDMI cable that is certified by HDMI Certification organization, which it will be stated on the package or go to there HDMIcertification.org website to find company that was certified. NOTE: this player when Dolby Vision is set, it will set color bits as RGB 8 bit color combo, however it work if true color is what your desire, it not vivid popping but is good nature looking color. HDR can get the popping color and may have to tone it down on your tv. 5. what is set as HDR or dolby vision or non is seen on the TV without connected to my Yamaha as if it was connected to my Yamaha. That is lesson learned using Sony ud[-800M2 4k player (sold at Best Buy), Using Maya HDMI cable (sold at Amazon, certified to provide data for 8K or 4k 120Hz or 48gig bit of data (which is cyy 4 4 4 required), Yamaha TSR-700 or RXV-6AV (Both is the same hardware, one sold at Costco and other is street model sold at Best Buy), Polk speaker voice match str-200 (4) and center (model ??) and sub-woofer (sb-10). I play cd that was very well recorded and it sound better than record, thanks to the latest new DAC from Burr Brown that is 384 kHz sampling rate, Yamaha Rxv-385 110watt /side at 349.99 or check what DAC it has before you buy, for sound the DAC is everything for sound tone. I plan to buy another one since i know how to use the HDR and Dolby bits, which I can do Dolby vision with blu ray movie, and it works. Please add to my comments ... it what I learned. Good luck,
