- Answer The S series (launched in 2011) on SonyStyle is Magnesium, with an aluminum palm/keyboard area. The Blue Label is all aluminum.

QuestionDifference between the SB and SCHi, I want to ask what are the differences between the SB and SC series. Best Buy offers the SC while Sony offers the SB. In Sony Canada's website, the SC is more expensive than the SB while it is the other way around in the US.

- Answer Thee SC has (in my opinion) a superior keyboard. The SB runs page up/down, and home/end along the right side of the key board. SC is closer to a desktop keyboard in that backspace/backslash/enter/shift are on the far right side. On the SC you must hold Fn+ArrowKeys to activate those functions.

- Answer Yes. There is a light sensor, and when you press a key in low-light, the back light kicks on. Remains off while typing if it's sufficiently bright.

QuestionVPCSC1AFM/S Hard drive?VPCSC1AFM/S hybrid hard drive says 5400 RPM, I think this is incorrect and the drive speed is 7200RPM. They are only available at 7200RPM with 4GB flash memory. No other hybrid drives are on the market yet. Is this a Segate Momentus XT drive or not?

- Answer Drive in machine is Seagate Momentus XT 500Gb. Part number is 9Uz154-140, which is showing as a 7200RPM drive. I've noticed specs on BBY website is off on many fronts for other machines as well.

- Answer weight is approx 3.8 lbs. it's similar if not less than other laptops of the same size.

QuestionCan I upgrade during purchase?If/when I purchase the Sony Vaio SC, I'd like to upgrade the memory to 8gb and, if possible, the hdd to 720gb and the screen resolution to *1600x900 (16:9) ratio? Can Best Buy do this at the time of purchase? Or am I pretty much stuck with the default factory configuration *(minus the memory upgrade)?

- Answer They can upgrade the memory for you to 8GB of RAM, but they cannot upgrade the HDD or the screen resolution.

- Answer Only the SA and SB models can be found on the Sony website. The SC model (which has the Hybrid Hard Drive) is special made for Best Buy.

QuestionWhat driver updates needed to use WiDi for DVD/Blu Ray?Widi works fine except for DVD/Blu-Ray. Intel website says need to update WiDi driver and graphics driver. WiDi drivers updates fine, but the computer won't accept the graphics driver update. How can this be fixed?

- Answer It does not work..... Spoke to Tech Support at Sony, and he says the drivers available on Intel website are not compatible.... Also Intel website mentions something similar....Check under 3 below which says "For your convenience, Intel is providing a generic graphics driver that can be used to enable Blu-Ray, DVD, and Intel Insider movie playback on some Intel WiDi systems. Intel recommends that you check your computer manufacturer’s website for the latest system specific updates and technical support information. The generic graphics driver cannot be used on Intel WiDi-enabled systems with ATI* graphics. Please check your computer manufacturer’s website for the latest system specific updates and technical support information. " http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/iwd/sb/CS-031109.htm This site provides links to various drivers and software that are used in conjunction with Intel® Wireless Display technology. Note Intel provides generic versions of drivers for general purposes.
