yes and yes, it says in the manual to download some software but i just drag and dropped it right to the player, and i use it through an aux cable in my car

Please try again later.To transfer songs without using Sony’s Media Center software, an extra and unnecessary step, imho, a pain, you first need to Format the external Micro SD card in the Sony. Then there will be a Folder named MUSIC. Formatting the card on a PC or Mac will not work. Once that is done the music can be transferred while the Sony is plugged in or the card can be unmounted and then plugged into a USB card reader. It takes while depending on the amount and if doing while the card is on the Sony you cannot use it. Then files can be dragged/dropped into the folder MUSIC. Make sure the Folder structure is “Album Artist/Album” and that the ID labels match. I am not sure, not tried yet, if the Album Art will show as iTunes puts that info into a proprietary database. IMHO it’s much better to use a Tagger like the free for PC MP3Tag from Florian online. iTunes may already have it organized as above depending on your setting under iTunes Preferences.
