This player is battery powered, and battery is recharged via a USB cable. Listening at moderate volume (5-8 on volume scale) through headphones, the battery should last close to 40 hours. Cranking it (30 on volume scale) through an external amp/speaker (IE: AUX on car stereo), battery should last about 8 hours. Enjoy your great day
