Yes, you can turn off the noise canceling function and Speak-to-Chat feature of these headphones. Additional information: The industry-leading noise canceling function is one of the best features of these headphones. We designed these headphones to provide incredible audio performance and take noise cancellation to the next level. If you use the noise canceling function, you can enjoy music without being disturbed by ambient noise. This function can be turned off if you prefer to listen to ambient sound. The WF-1000XM4 features Ambient Sound mode that captures more of the sound around you than ever before, which means you get a more natural listening experience and stay connected to your environment. Simply tap the touch sensor on the left unit to change the settings of the noise canceling function. Each time you tap, the function switches as follows. • Ambient Sound Mode: ON - You will hear the voice guidance say, “Ambient sound”. • Noise canceling function: ON - You will hear the voice guidance say, “Noise canceling”. Note: You can also turn on/off the noise canceling function and change the settings of the noise canceling function and Ambient Sound Mode with the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. It also features Quick Attention Mode- This function turns down the music, call sounds, and ringtone to allow ambient sound to be easily heard. It is useful when you want to listen to train announcements, etc. Another useful function that these headphones feature is the Speak-to-Chat, if Speak-to-Chat is enabled in advance, the Speak-to-Chat mode starts automatically when you talk to someone. The headset pauses or mutes the music being played and captures the voice of the person you are conversing with on the microphones to make it easier to hear. When the headset does not detect the wearer’s voice for a certain period of time, the Speak-to-Chat mode ends automatically. The WF-1000XM4 also feature the use of one earbud at a time. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Either you can turn on the ambient sound mode to listen to your surroundings, or simply take out one earbud and talk, and keep listening on the second earbud. I personally don't bother taking out one earbud. I simply tap and hold to quick chat with ambient sound mode.
