I had to use the Optical output to get this to work. I was not able to use the HDMI arc to get sounds from both the headphones and speaker.

My headphones are hooked up to a Sony XBR-55X-850D and they work great. Sound great and very comfortable. TV volume and headphone volume work independently. The only problem I have is when the volume on the TV is turned up to the point I can hear it with my headphones on I hear an echo through the headphones. This can be very annoying. Hope this helps.
