“the red light won't turn off and my headphones won't turn on or off... I've tried holding down the power button I've tried to hold the volume buttons down at the same time it won't do anything.”

A solid red light means the headphones are charging, or they think they are. Put them on a charger and take them off. If the light stays on then you have faulty headphones. Return them at your local Best buy (if still within manufacture defect warranty). I suggest you take a look at the WI-XB400. They are still Sony, but it is a great upgrade. Sound is richer, range is longer and build quality is better.
