I usually am in a pretty noisy room when I'm at my computer, TV sounds and the like. But with the leather plush earpads they make a pretty good seal I can rarely hear any noise outside my headphones. They may not have active noise cancellation but they keep all the sound you want in and any external sounds out
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've only heard one pair of Bose headphones and I'm not sure what model they were so take this with a grain of salt. From my recollection the best feature of the Bose headphones that I heard was their noise cancelling circuitry. I'm really not much the fan of Bose products, to be honest. I've heard it said that Bose means Buy Other Sound Equipment and have felt that way for years. It's pricey and there are better products, IMHO. I've been listening to my MDR-1A for the past few months and they aren't noise cancelling. You can hear things outside of the cups, but that's NOT a bad thing in my view. I don't enjoy not being able to hear my son call me or when the telephone rings. What is more important to me is that my wife and son don't hear what's filling my eardrums. These are a terrific sounding headphone, at least to my ears. Are they totally sonically accurate? NO. But they are tremendously FUN with just enough bass output to slam without being too boomy. And the comfort level is off the charts in a good way. As comfortable as my Sennheiser HD 598's with a buttery soft leather type ear cup.

My daughter is able to cancel out the rest of the world (me) while using these headphones. I do know this is true because I have been able to walk up on her unannounced with the shocking reaction to my abrupt presence.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I believe the Sony headphones sound better than the Bose. Better bass. Wide sound stage. Also the Sony's are very comfortable and block out quite a bit of background noise.
