Hi jrfromffx, Thanks for the question! The Party Connect and Stereo Pair functions on Sony speakers do require the use of the Sony Music Center app for initial setup. Once you have paired the speakers using the app, you can connect them to another Bluetooth device that does not have the app and still enjoy stereo sound. However, the initial pairing and grouping must be done through the app. To use the Stereo Pair function, 2 SRS-XE300 speakers are required. By connecting 2 speakers via BLUETOOTH connection, you can enjoy more powerful sound.
