• Yes, our TV does that automatically (you can select either internal or external speakers but not both). Other models (of TV) may allow more functionality.

• Yes probably, most newer television require you to pick a sound source. I use a 4 year old Samsung and configure it to use the soundbar/

• In my experience, once I plugged the sound bar into the tv and turned it on, the tv speakers went mute. Short answer is yes.

• When I mute my TV it blocks all audio output including to the soundbar. I raise the volume on the soundbar and then control the volume output from my TV with TV remote.
