The Speck one covers the edges and corners, the less expensive ones (Insignia) are thinner and don't cover the edges and coners as well or at all. The edges and corners take a beating on a laptop being used heavily. Plus, if you ever damage/crack/break a corner on the Speck they will send you a new one, I think up to 1 a year.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They help against scratches, bumps & dings... This case is very durable and may protect from things dropped on it, possible spilled water or Pet inquiries. Nothing will take the place of pure destruction, but this is easy to apply and for additional piece of mind... you can pick up a key board protector.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.dont even bother with this product! it wont stay in place, keeps me, annoyed from doing my work
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Speck is a very well known brand in the protective space for the technology market. I admire the company. However based on ive been through 2 shell cases, 1 at 10 months and the other at 13 months, im done. i'll find something else. I will say the cheaper $15 cases are usually a thinner plastic.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think you get what you pay for, however, I do feel as though a lot of times you are paying more the name, and not necessarily the product. I went with the cheaper case and so far it's been ok, but if you need something to really protect your laptop I would probably get something with a hard casing
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Don't forget that you can get a price match from Amazon.com (as long as it's the parent company and not an individual seller.) I paid $30.00 for mine using a price match and there is definitely a difference in fit and finish/quality with the speck unit. I've also heard horror stories of other shells actually scratching the finish of the Macbook, so I'd keep that in mind when making your decision.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's probably just a perceived quality thing rather than actually being better. I do like that the feet are covered by the case though. Some cheaper cases just have holes for the rubber feet of the computer to poke out of. My blue MacBook Pro 13 case has tons of scratches from being in my backpack but the computer looks like I just took it out of the box, so it's worth it in my opinion.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My Speck Case protected my MacBook Proc from a fall from the TSA conveyor belt at the airport when another traveler hit the tray my MacBook Pro was in. I am glad I spent the $50.00 for the Speck case.
