• The dock itself just holds the reader and charges it while plugged in. The reader is wireless.

• The dock can be used without a plug, but of course will not charge the Contactless and Chip Reader, and the wire itself cannot be removed. You can plug the doc into either a wall outlet or the Square Stand. If it's connected to the Square Stand it will also pair your Contactless and Chip Reader when it's docked.
