“FYI the physical switch release requires a 4GB download to play. It is not all on the cart. I don't mean a patch or update, I mean the core game doesn't fit on the cart and needs the download to play.”

The whole game is actually on the cart. The day one update was only 833mb like the PS4 and PS5 versions. Square-Enix goofed up on their end.

This was confirmed not true, game is playable out of the box. Tried with Switch on airplane mode. The “patch” is an optional language patch to add more languages to the game.

Yes The whole game is on the cartridge the download is only for the language packs and bugs fixes. Can play the game from the cartridge without updating

Despite the banner on the case, the download was not required. I was able to play the game on the cart without updating. The download is for languages other than English and Japanese.

I believe the downloads are only for additional languages.
