The Nespresso Vertuo can brew espresso, you just have to make sure you're buying the correct capsules for it. Make sure whatever you get says espresso for the Nespresso Vertuo and you're set. You'll also know because the capsules brew 1 to 2 ounces which is a single or double shot of espresso, whereas the coffee capsules brew 5 to 7 ounces typically. You can not use loose grounds in this machine, you have to buy the capsules
