some pictures show a flexible boom mike and some show them without a boom. can the boom be removed on this model and still have a functioning microphone? null

It has a flexible boom that retracts into the one speaker. Pull it out to use the mic, has mute button on headset when not in use. Push the boom back in and goes almost flush with headset.

The microphone is flexible and actually retracts out of the way into the headset. I have heard that if you push the mic all the way into the headset it mutes the mic but I haven't tested this. I like being able to push it back into the headset when I want to use these as just headphones or with my Switch.

The boom for the mic is flexible and retractable. It cannot be removed, but can be retracted into the headset for a cleaner look while still being active. There is also a mute button for the mic which deactivates it, in either the extended or retracted positions.

The boom can not be removed from the headset but it is flexible. A nice feature is the boom will actually slide into the headset so its not in the way when not needed. But its not removable.

The flexible boom Can be pushed/retracted into the earpiece. Even in the retracted position it still functions as a mic. It has a mute button if you don’t want it on.
