That's the same camera I use on mine. I'm pretty sure that I read a weight limit somewhere of six pounds on the tripod, and the camera is about three and a half. It works well for my purposes. Usually I'm present behind the camera, trying to keep a wildlife subject in the viewfinder. It doesn't tip or seem unstable, but I'm not so sure I'd trust it not to drift downward if left untouched outdoors for a lengthier sequence. It does that on my larger video tripod. I think the "fix" isn't in getting a different tripod but rather in getting a longer mounting platform to better balance the lens when extended.
