No, you do not but if you get the add on version for an extra $10, it's worth it. The online portion of this game allows for the player to post custom made courses and play other players' courses as well. Plus you get classic NES games with online as well. Its a good value.

I already paid for mine for 2019. It expires early December. By putting in the code they included, I'm now covered until December 2020!

It’s fun either way, but I like to keep myself in check and play levels that only the most elite players can beat. There is something called super expert challenge that will have you frustrated beyond belief. Once you pass the level though, the satisfaction is AMAZING!
