Hi Dave. Your question is a bit tricky to answer as everyone's network environment is slightly different and so the signal strength the camera receives at your home when it's 30ft from your router could be different from what your neighbor gets at the same distance. The main camera does need a strong Wi-Fi signal and for most people this means it should be located within 65ft of your router. Wi-Fi range extenders can also help you get a better signal at the camera's location if you need it. -SD, Swann team
