Hi Jadedfalcon. DVD discs only have limited storage capacity so this would not be a viable backup method. You can certainly backup clips from the DVR's hard drive to a USB thumb drive or external hard drive however this would need to be a manual process that you action yourself rather than a something you can schedule automatically from the DVR. Occasionally we have customers who may purchase a second internal hard drive and then rotate it over with the included one as each fills up. Our 16 channel NVR cases are also big enough to house a 2nd hard drive if required. -SD, Swann Team
