Don't know who's saying it won't hold a 17" laptop. It absolutely DOES.

No, 17" laptop is about 20" long and that is too long for this backpack. It will fit up to a 15.6" laptop which is about 14.4" long. That's as big as you can go.

Ide assume so, my 13in MacBook Pro looks small in the designated laptop pocket.

No it will not. Anything less than 15.5 inches in the side compartment is fine. Middle compartment will handle anything less than 16”.
