“I'll visit the US for 2 weeks and want to use my own smartphone while there. Is using this along with prepaid minutes my best option? I know I want a temporary sim card for using my Samsung phone on short visits to the USA. No contract, just buy minutes as needed. I saw that registration on the T-mobile site requires entering your existing phone number and the phone's unique ID number. Not sure if that means I'll have problems when I leave the US and put my original sim card back in. Would I be better off using some other product or provider?”

T Mobile charges you $2/minute for all international calls between your handset and the person you call. If you are calling within the country your handset is in, the rate is $1.49 a minute. As a comparison, since I am in USA, if I call another USA number it's 10 cents a minute -- so it's 15x more expensive for me to call UK to UK with this card and a pre-paid plan than USA to USA. You might find a better deal with a different carrier. I do not like this card or the T Mobile service (using it just 3 days) now I have it and will certainly let the air time I bought expire and the card deactivate!
