I have not done this myself, but the one for sale at Best Buy comes with an SD card (I know because I already have one being on a contract), so if you do not wish to switch b/c you don't want to lose contacts may I suggest a cloud type backup like NetQin Sync? It has moved my contacts with me through several phones and allows you to edit them through the web as well. It's also multi-platform if you choose to switch OS's.
