• I bought a Lumia 435 two months ago and I've been using it without paying a dime for T-Mobile service. You can download maps to the phone with wifi and use it like a gps device with offline navigation.

• As long as you are connected to Wi-Fi you do not have to activate the phone if you're not going to use it to text or make calls
