I think you still pay for guide info on the old ones. But the guide is free on the model 4s. But if you can get lifetime guide info on the older models then you might want to because I have had two model 4s die on me and they ignored my claim for warranty! I would look for something else. HDHomeRun looks good to me.

You can watch or record 1 show per tuner, at once. So, if you have a 2-Tuner Tablo, you can watch 1 show while recording another. A 4 Tuner Tablo would allow your family to watch/record 2 more shows at the same time. The extra cost is for the extra tuners. Hope this helps.
