“Has anyone used this lens for sports photography or to capture other action shots rather than stills?”

• I was very pleased with the results I shot at several Spring Training baseball games in Florida. Great zoom capability, fine sharpness on subjects (with the additional screening at most parks, most of my work was with the autofocus turned off. It also produced good, sharp results inside nightclubs and theaters where I shoot concerts.

• I use it a lot for field hockey, it's a brilliant lens.

• I have used the lens indoor and outdoors for football games, basketball games, and soccer as well as nature shots. It is a gem for action shots as well as still shots. It is a terrific walk around lens.
