You do not need a cable box. Has many app options for live TV, so long as you have WiFi at your home, you can watch whatever channels you already subscribe to.

If your cable provider does not have a companion streaming channel available through the Roku platform, you would still need your cable box to access your cable channels. You can go to channelstore.roku.com/browse to see what streaming channels and apps are offered through the Roku Channel Store.
