“Is it normal for audio output via the headphone jack on this TV to pick up background noises/ground loop/EMI from the motherboard components, and power supply, or is my unit defective? Thank you.”

I certainly do not have this issue. I have listened with Sony noise cancelling headsets plugged in as well as some AKG headsets.
